The Communications Committee of Latin's Alumni Board is pleased to present the third in a series of monthly Alumni Profiles. This December, read about Grant DePorter, member of the class of '83 and President of Harry Caray's restuarants and 10pin Bowling Lounge.
If you know an alum who should be featured, send information about them along with an explanation of why you think they should be profiled to the Alumni Office at latinalum@latinschool.org. Thank you!
Name: Grant DePorter '83
Birthplace: Seattle, WA
Current place of residence: Winnetka, IL
Standout memory from Latin: I lived at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. It was fun having prom in my home.
Post-Latin Education: Bachelor's degree from Cornell and MBA from Duke University Fuqua School of Business
Current Occupation & What is best about it: President of Harry Caray's Restaurants and 10pin bowling lounge. Everyday is exciting. You never know who could be walking through the door. It could be anyone from Bill Murray to the Speaker of the House.
Favorite Latin School Teacher: Senor Giosh
Last good book I read: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
Hobbies & Interests: Collecting Cubs/Baseball Memorabilia
Favorite Quote: “Seldom in the history of sports, seldom in the history of the world, seldom in the history of the universe has a ball symbolized so much. The path the ball has taken to this evening is known to every school child in America as surely as he knows of Paul Revere’s ride.” MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann right before I blew up the infamous Cubs' Foul Ball.
