I am pleased to report that, as of this morning, the litigation on the
field project has come to an end. Cook County Circuit Court Judge
Dorothy Kirie Kinnaird has approved a settlement agreement and
dismissed the lawsuit against Latin, the Chicago Park District (CPD)
and the City of Chicago.
As part of the settlement agreement, Latin's contract with the CPD will
be terminated. This means that Latin is no longer involved in the
construction of the field, and our usage agreement will be terminated.
The school is satisfied with this resolution, which provides for
reimbursement by the CPD to Latin for construction costs.
The CPD has indicated that it still hopes to complete the project and
will move forward by taking it before the Chicago Plan Commission for
consideration. When/if the field is completed by CPD, Latin will be
allowed to permit its use along with all other members of the general
public.
At this point construction cannot continue toward the completion of the
field. However, the CPD is allowed to make some immediate adjustments
to protect and secure the current site. (Roughly three days work.)
